Bilingual Teacher Training Program (BTTP)

The Project offers training on language development, the process of second language acquisition, techniques for teaching English, and strategies for teaching students of diverse backgrounds. Teachers may take classes that prepare them for obtaining a Bilingual, Crosscultural, Language and Academic Development (BCLAD) certificate for bilingual instruction, or a Crosscultural, Language and Academic Development (CLAD) certificate for English-only instruction.
The Mendocino County Office of Education co-sponsors teacher preparation classes for CLAD and BCLAD certification. For additional information, you may contact Guillermo Rivas, with the Sonoma County Office of Education at (707) 524-2803.

Designated Subjects (D.S.) Credential Program
Designated Subjects Credentials authorize teaching or service in technical, trade or vocational courses or in courses organized primarily for adults. The requirements generally include experience in the subject. The D.S. Credential Program is offered by the Sonoma County Office of Education as a personalized preparation program for the Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential and the Designated Subjects Vocational Education Teaching Credential. This is available to teachers employed by the Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake, Mendocino, or Sonoma County Offices of Education to teach vocational or adult education and have a preliminary credential in either of those areas.
The DS Program is a collaborative program with the North Coast Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment Program (BTSA), and uses the BTSA program model to deliver the required skills and knowledge. Completion of the two year DS Program leads to a clear credential.
For more information about the DS program, please contact Steve Jurist at (707) 882-9114 or at firstname.lastname@example.org. For specific information about teaching in vocational or adult education in California's public schools, check with the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing at: http://www.ctc.ca.gov/default.html
