Mendocino County Office of Education offers a variety of professional development opportunities for K-12 teachers and administrators to develop knowledge and skills to better help the schools and districts they serve.
Professional Development consists of workshops or trainings that allow educators to build basic competency in content knowledge or instructional strategies within a specified amount of time. The goal of Professional Development is to provide content.
Professional Learning describes a sustained, systematic, formal and informal cycle of experiences designed to support increased student achievement through effective teacher learning. This type of learning experience emphasizes school/district/teacher/student-identified learning outcomes. The focus is on capacity-building around the identified learning targets. Participants will use data to show evidence of improved teaching and learning through self-reflection, collaboration, student work/assessment, and on the job practice. The goal of Professional Learning is to transform teaching practice.
Professional Learning may include coaching and/or ongoing support, lesson study, peer observation, collaboration, and could be an extension of a Professional Development training/workshop.
