Expanded Learning

We support Afterschool Safety and Education (ASES) and 21st Century Community Learning Center (21stCCLC) programs in Region 1: a diverse 5-county area. The Region 1 System of Support for Expanded Learning (SSEL) includes a MCOE-based team and analysts from the California Department of Education. In collaboration with state and local partners who run and oversee before school, afterschool and summer programming, we ensure that expanded learning programs in Region 1 have the sustenance and tools they need to provide high quality enrichment activities as well as safe and supportive environments for thousands of students each school day. Together, with our partners throughout Sonoma, Lake, Mendocino, Humboldt, and Del Norte Counties, we are working to ensure that all kids have access to expanded opportunities to build social emotional learning capacity and 21st-Century skills.

The Region 1 System of Support for Expanded Learning provides training, coaching, mentoring, resource facilitation and ongoing support for expanded learning grantees throughout Sonoma, Lake, Mendocino, Humboldt, and Del Norte counties. By engaging in learning leadership, the SSEL team partners with state and local service providers, program staff, and administrators to engage in continuous quality improvement, systems design, and community-building. We facilitate observation and assessment, grant compliance, communication, and alignment with school-day curriculum, and we promote program sustainability by building and maintaining authentic partnerships within and across the systems that serve the youth in our community.
