MICHELLE HUTCHINS, SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS
Michelle Hutchins was elected in 2018 after spending 24 years in education. Her experience includes having been an art and technology teacher, the director of adult and alternative programs, a university instructor, a principal, and a superintendent in two rural school districts.
In her role as county superintendent of schools, Michelle brings her experience to bear as she oversees the regulatory administration and educational support services for all school districts in Mendocino County. She embraces and embodies the Mendocino County Office of Education’s motto, “Educational Success for All Students.”
Although her term officially began in January 2019, she was sworn in as interim in October 2018. She is currently in the process of traveling to every district in the county to better understand the unique needs of each region, as well as to assess the overall needs of the county.
Superintendent Michelle Hutchins was elected with four primary goals in mind. She promised to:
- Confront chronic absenteeism by forming countywide attendance boards and teen courts;
- Decentralize services to overcome Mendocino’s geographic challenges;
- Assist local school boards in developing effective governance structures; and
- Inspire a culture of innovation.
