UPDATE MONDAY, 8/10/2020:
The filing period for the Area #4 (Caspar, Cleone, Fort Bragg, Leggett, Piercy, Westport) seat has been extended for non-incumbents to August 12, 2020.
As the original filing deadline was for August 7, 2020, and the only candidate for the Area #3 (Covelo, Laytonville, Willits) seat at the time of that deadline was incumbent Charline Ford, the seat will not go to election and the filing period for that area is over.
The Mendocino County Superintendent of Schools announced this week that two seats on the County Board of Education will be up for election on November 3, 2020. These seats are for Area #3 (Covelo, Laytonville, Willits) and Area #4 (Caspar, Cleone, Fort Bragg, Leggett, Piercy, Westport). Those interested in becoming a candidate for either position must reside in the area for which they are running, be a registered voter in Mendocino County, and may not be an employee of the Mendocino County Office of Education or a school district within the jurisdiction of the Mendocino County Superintendent of Schools.
How to File
Anyone interested in becoming a candidate for this elected position should carefully review the following:
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, candidate paperwork may be faxed or emailed to the Clerk Recorder’s Office at (707) 463-4257 (fax) or firstname.lastname@example.org. Any questions should be directed to the Elections Office by E-mail or phone to (707) 234-6819. Candidates who prefer to file at the Elections Office must do so by appointment, as there is no walk-in service available at this time. Appointments are limited, so please call in advance to schedule time.
Applicants may submit the necessary paperwork July 13th through August 7th. If an incumbent does not file by August 7th, non-incumbents will have until August 12th to submit their paperwork.
*The declaration of candidacy form is only one of several forms that the applicant will need to complete. After reviewing the candidate application, the Clerk Recorder’s Office will provide additional forms.
