Mendocino County Office of Education offers specialized programs to support students facing various challenges. Our alternative education settings provide structured environments with personalized attention to help students succeed academically, develop social-emotional skills, and prepare for successful transitions.
With small class sizes, high adult-to-student ratios, and integrated therapeutic support, we create environments where every student can thrive. Our evidence-based approaches focus on positive reinforcement, skill-building, and individualized progress monitoring to ensure each student receives the support they need.

2025-2026
Mendocino County Community School (MCCS) is a WASC accredited program serving students in grades 7-12 who benefit from a more personalized educational environment. Our program provides structured support for:
- Students who have been expelled
- Probation-referred youth
- Students experiencing habitual truancy (SARB referred)
- Foster and homeless youth
- Students who would benefit from a smaller school setting to increase academic success
At MCCS, we create individualized educational plans with clear goals and expectations. Students typically attend our program for approximately one year or until they successfully complete their contract terms, developing the skills and stability needed to transition back to traditional school settings or advance to their next educational steps.
Our smaller class sizes allow for more one-on-one attention, creating opportunities for students to rebuild confidence, address challenges, and experience academic success. Through supportive relationships with staff and structured expectations, students at MCCS find a path forward that honors their unique circumstances while preparing them for future success.
Orr Creek School provides comprehensive educational services for students with significant behavioral or social-emotional learning needs. Our specialized campus offers:
- Classrooms serving students in grades K-12
- Small class sizes with high adult-to-student ratios
- Intensive counseling resources including group counseling and social skills development
- Individual therapy in collaboration with Mendocino County Mental Health
- Evidence-based approach using the TIERS Model developed by Diana Browning-Wright
Our program delivers academic rigor within a structured setting that emphasizes positive reinforcement. All students at Orr Creek School have been found eligible for special education services, with individual goals and progress carefully monitored through the IEP process.
The mission of our Therapeutic Support Program is to help students develop essential self-regulation skills, manage their own behavior effectively, increase academic momentum, and build a positive self-image. In this supportive environment, we prepare students for a successful return to less restrictive educational settings when appropriate.
West Hills Juvenile Hall Community School (WHJHCS) is a WASC accredited program housed inside the Mendocino County Juvenile Hall that is intended for students in grades 7-12 that are detained in the Mendocino County Juvenile Probation Department.

Former MCOE Students: To request a copy of your Mendocino County Office of Education transcript, please complete this online Transcript Request Form. A photo ID is required. We only have records for MCOE-run programs. If you attended a school not run by MCOE, please request your records directly from the school site or the district office. Click here for a Mendocino County district directory. Please allow up to 5 business days for processing.
