October is Substance Use & Misuse Prevention Month. In 2011, President Barack Obama initiated the first presidential proclamation declaring October as National Substance Abuse Prevention Month. This has continued to be observed annually by SAMHSA and many agencies around the nation. This month inspires us to discuss empathetically what substance misuse struggles might look like and how we can help.
Here is a helpful toolkit for more information: https://www.samhsa.gov/about/digital-toolkits/substance-use-prevention-month.
Knowledge is the first step. In this week's blog post, we challenge you to research one fact about substance misuse struggles. This could be physiological, emotional, demographic statistics, etc. You might learn something you never knew!
If you find something that stands out to you, email rkarpovkinrade@mcoe.us and we will include it in next week’s post. We would love to hear from you.
Remember, we are in this together!
