Educate, Empower, Support!

Educate, Empower, Support!

In addition to Substance Misuse Prevention Month, October is also the month for LGBTQ History, Domestic Abuse Awareness, ADHD Awareness, and more! Shining a spotlight on these topics, not only allows us to learn about a diverse array of conditions, but opens up a dialogue about the impact these  may have on individuals, and de-stigmatizes the conversation. Knowledge is power, and educating ourselves on definitions, symptoms, impacts and how multiple conditions can intersect with each other, strengthens our ability to provide support to our loved ones and community members who may struggle with these issues.

Often, people experiencing mental health challenges show higher rates of substance misuse, because of the strong compulsion to self-medicate. By understanding the motivations and influence of substance misuse, we can provide tailored resources to help them on their journey to recovery.  Through education, we can also recognize substance misuse as not a moral failing but an individual's attempt to cope with problems they may feel unable to overcome on their own. This can better equip us to help re-direct with empathy and love rather than scorn and judgement.

When we notice the signs of a mental health struggle and provide support, we can prevent an escalating crisis early. Join our mental health awareness trainings to help lead the way! And check our further resources, below.
