Project GLAD workshop: High-Leverage Strategies for Multilingual Learners

Project GLAD workshop: High-Leverage Strategies for Multilingual Learners

Offered in both Ukiah and Fort Bragg, this Project GLAD® (Guided Language Acquisition Design) workshop is designed to support teachers in implementing standards-based content through sketching, pictures, chants and media with corresponding academic language.

Deep cognition is developed through well-designed lessons building upon brain, biliteracy, language acquisition and reading and writing research.

Participants will explore effective, engaging strategies to scaffold the development of academic language and literacy, while strengthening content comprehension of all learners.

This interactive workshop also navigates Designated/Integrated ELD and SEL strategies which support and celebrate our multilingual learners.

Project GLAD® began over 35 years ago in Fountain Valley, CA, when a group of educators set out to support refugee students learning English. With limited resources, they collaborated with experts in language acquisition, brain research, and literacy to develop effective strategies. Over time, their work evolved into the Project GLAD® model recognized today. Backed by both state and federal education departments, the model gained national support and established the National Training Center at the Orange County Department of Education. Today, Project GLAD® continues to partner with schools and agencies to support high-quality teaching and student-centered learning.
